DIRCE LEIMI KOMURAEdible Mushroom Polysaccharides from the Amazonian rain forest, Brazil

ABSTRACT

Edible mushrooms from the Amazonia rain forest are a great source of polysaccharides. Known edibles species and their potential for producing different types of polysaccharides are presented.

BIOGRAPHY

Ms. Komura is a Brazilian biologist and mycologist. She holds a master's degree in Biochemistry, during which she studied polysaccharides obtained from mushrooms cultivated in liquid medium. During her doctoral studies at the National Institute for Amazonian Research (INPA), she studied the taxonomy and ecology of Agaricales in a management area of the Amazonian rain forest. She also carried postdoctoral research on the chemistry of polysaccharides and Amazonian macrofungal diversity. This talk is focused on presenting which fungal polysaccharides are produced in different areas of the Amazon forest. Ms. Komura currently works at INPA Herbarium on the diversity of mushrooms in the Amazon, one of her main interests.
