PHILIPPE SILARDegradation and use of lignin by model coprophilic ascomycete, Podospora anserina

ABSTRACT

Podospora anserina, the “kind mould,” will be used to illustrate the poorly known and underestimated role of ascomycetes (dominant fungi in soils) in lignin degradation.

BIOGRAPHY

Philippe Silar is a professor at the University of Paris, where he teaches genetics and the biology of eukaryotic microbes. His research mainly focuses on the genetics, physiology, diversity and evolution of fungi.
