SERI ROBINSONThe Art and Science of Soft-Rot (Spalting) Fungi

ABSTRACT

Wood decay fungi have been used for artistic woodworking for centuries. As they digest wood, these fungi (’spalting’ fungi) secrete pigments that come in many stable colours. This presentation addresses the historic art and modern science of spalting fungi.
